Electricity Prepayment System

Prepayment System is a system for management of prepayment electricity utility customers. It provides comprehensive facilities for revenue collection and for two-way transfer of metering and other data between the utility and individual customer meters.

System functions are performed using two types of terminals:

  • Customer Management System (CMS) terminal – which are used to perform administrative functions such as setting up prepayment network, maintaining consumer accounts and defining tariffs of charges.

  • Point Of Sale (POS) vending terminal – which are primarily concerned with vending credit of electricity supply for transfer to consumers’ meters. Data update to consumers’ meters will do by CMS.

The full range of facilities provide by the Prepayment System included:

  • Controlling system security.
  • Maintaining the Prepayment System network by adding, modifying and removing vending sites and terminals.
  • Adding and maintaining consumer accounts.
  • Creating and maintaining tariffs.
  • Adding Credit.
  • Maintaining the transaction records, financial records and terminal activity history logs.

Power Quality & Energy Saving Products

    1. Equalizer & ACTIVAR (Harmonic-resistant, Non-resonant Fast Response, Transient Free Reactive Power Compensation Systems)

EQUALIZER:
A real time transient free system, used to compensate extremely rapid loads within one cycle (typically 5-20 mSec).

ACTIVAR:
A fast transient free system, used to compensate any load within 3-4 seconds.

Advantages of Equalizer & ACTI VAR
• Transient Free capacitors group switching, using electronic switching elements
• Prevents over voltage damage to sensitive electronic equipment
• Saves energy
• Harmonic filtration
• Accurate power factor control, even in the presence of harmonics
• Dramatically increases the life expectancy of switching elements and capacitors
• Considerably lower temperature rise of capacitors and inductors due to unique scan feature
• Built-in three phase network analyzer, measuring all network parameters including harmonics
• Unique self testing and comprehensive reporting feature.
• Non-resonance with system inductance.
• Self-protected against adverse effect of harmonic

Advantages Equalizer (in addition to the above)
• Cycle by cycle reactive power compensation (total acquisition time of 5-20mSec)
• Prevents voltage drop and flickering
• Used for Real Time applications, such as spot welding and motor start-up
• Enhances capacity of local generator systems, such as diesel and windmill generators.

    1. Active Harmonic Conditioner (Active Injection Mode, A.I.M.)

Active Harmonic Conditioner adopts a patented technology to isolate harmonic currents and thereby protect equipment on your power distribution system from disruption and damage due to harmonic currents and associated voltage distortion. It continuously monitors the non-linear current demanded by the load, and electronically generates an ADAPTIVE current waveform which matches the shape of the non-linear portion on the load current. A.I.M. harmonic conditioner injects this matching current into the load, mitigating the problematic harmonic currents at the point of connection. Utilising this patented method of cancellation, the A.I.M. active harmonic conditioner provides a level of attenuation of harmonic currents not previously realizable.

    1. Digital Soft Starters

Electronic soft starting is the most advanced form of reduced voltage starting. The technology offers superior control over starting current and torque. Additionally the more advanced soft start systems also provide advanced protection and interface functions.

The main starting and stopping advantages offered include:

• Smooth application of voltage and current without and steps or transients.
• Users are provided total control over the starting current and starting torque through simple programming adjustments.
• Frequent start capability without performance variations.
• Optimum start performance for every start even in applications where load varies between starts.
• Soft stop control for applications such as pumps and conveyors
• Braking for reducing decelerations times.

    1. Variable Speed Drives (Frequency Converter)

Advantages and benefits of Variable Speed Drives

• Maintenance - Direct-on-tine starting stresses the motor and also the electrical equipment. With electrical VSDs, smooth starting is possible and this has a direct effect on maintenance costs.

•Energy saving - Changing flow by mechanical means is very inefficient. With electrical VSDs, changing the flow can be achieved by changing the motor speed. Particularly in pump and fan applications, this saves lots of energy, because the shaft power is proportional to the flow rate to the power of three. VSDs save energy because the motor does not use more electrical energy than required.

• Full motor protection - VSDs are designed to protect downstream cabling and motors against short circuit faults, earth faults, overcurrent (overload), overtemperature and single phasing. The need for a conventional motor circuit protection relay is removed but conventional fusing or a circuit breaker is required to protect the VSD itself.

• Soft starting and stopping - Usually there are limitations on the number of full load starts permitted in one hour for soft starters because of the heating effect. Frequent rapid acceleration and deceleration also generate heat.

• Wide range of speed, torque and power - Mechanical output power depends on the required torque (T) and rotating speed (n). The greater the speed or torque required, the greater the power required. This has a direct effect on how much power the drive system draws from the electrical supply.A drive regulates the voltage and frequency, which is fed to the motor, and in this way directly controls the power used in the motor as well as in the process being controlled.

• Improved power factor - The power factor tells us what proportion of the total electric power is active and how much is so called reactive power. To produce the required mechanical power, active power is required. Reactive power is needed to produce magnetisation in the motor. Motors from about 2.2kW, 4-pole, 1500rpm, operate at a power factor in the range 0.8 to 0.85. Smaller 4-pole motor power factor can be as low as 0.64 at full Load. Electrical demand at a power factor lower than 0.85 may attract supply cost penalties. There are two ways to improve the power factor:

       • Fit power factor correction equipment
       • Install a VSD or the more sophisticated soft starters. However, only the VSD
can maintain motor efficiency at reduced load.

•Environmental protection - Squirrel cage motors are protected to IP55 which guarantees that the motor can work in a dusty environmental and that it can bear sprinkling water from any direction. The AC drive usually has an IP21 degree of protection. This means it is not possible to touch the live parts and that vertically dripping water will not cause any harm. Higher degrees of protection can be achieved by installing the AC drive in a cabinet with the required degree of protection. RUDOLF is available in IP22 and IP54 versions.

• EMC - EMC stands for electromagnetic compatibility. It is very important that a drive fulfils the EMC directives of the European Union. Basically EMC compliance means that an AC drive can withstand conductive and radiative disturbances and that it does not send any conductive or radiative disturbances itself either to the electrical supply or the surrounding environment.
