Equalizer (Real Time Power Factor Compensation System)
 |
The
Equalizer is a real time capacitor switching unit,
designed to replace conventional switching
equipment in PFC systems. This new unit utilizes
electronic switching elements that connect the
capacitor groups to the network during the
capacitors zero current crossing. This smooth
connection avoids the transient effects typically
created by conventional PFC systems. There is no
limit to the number of switching operations as the
electronic switching elements do not wear out or
deteriorate during the switching process. This
unlimited switching revolutionizes the basic
operational concept of PFC systems.
In contrast to conventional slow response PFC
systems, The Equalizer is a fast response system
that can be used to compensate any variation in
reactive power within one cycle of the network.
Large and rapid variations in reactive power
normally occur during motor start-up, spot welding
operations, and large number of unsynchronized
plastic injection machines. The Equalizer
minimizes the negative effects of these loads,
resulting in improved power quality. |
