Surge Protection Devices
 |
The
massification of electronics in any aspect of our
lives (domestic, commercial, industrial,
administration, ...), the dramatic miniaturization of
electronic components and our huge dependability on
them (computers, ...) have increased our need to
protect against any possible threat that may disrupt
the normal operation of electronic equipment.
Electronics today are more and more vulnerable to
high-frequency power disturbances such as voltage
transients and noise. These problems occur in the
frequency range of the microprocessor clock speed
(MHz), so it is a growing power problem, which will
increasingly keep on affecting electronic equipment.
Though power quality indeed has improved in the last
years, high frequency power disturbances associated to
lightning or load switching cannot be eliminated.
Actually these are growing, since fast transistor
based switching is more widely used.
Surge Protection Devices are more needed in any
kind of electrical installation, in order to protect,
and provide the following benefits:
1) Avoid downtimes caused by random logic failures
(that require to restart electronic equipment to get
it
1)
back
into operation).
2) Increase operative life of electronics, by
providing to it always a clean and disturbance-free
power supply.
3) Protect against lightning, its destructive
consequences, and the costly repairs and downtimes
that they
1)
originate.
